Vintage Overdyed Rugs in Neutral Colors
Vintage Rugs are sheared and washed with color. These kinds of rugs demonstrate a process best described as 'The modern palette applied to classics'. It consists of an added step to the finishing process in which the rug is either white washed, and sheared or washed, sheared, and dyed in a full immersion bath of a chosen color. The effect is quite stunning, creating a more current look and blending seamlessly with the prior dyes.
Wool and Viscose Rugs
Wool and Viscose rugs are casually styled area rugs made using a pure soft wool pile and silky smooth viscose fibers. Viscose is used to highlight details of the rug helping them stand out with a shimmering finish. Viscose is shiny like silk but not quite as durable. It is used in mixture with wool and sometimes by itself. It is less expensive than wool and adds highlight to wool rugs. Pictures do not create the full impression of why these rugs are so popular today.
Viscose does not clean as easily some other natural fibers or synthetic fibers and is not recommended for high traffic areas. If you spill anything on it, it is imperative that one blots the liquid quickly.
It is important to note that Viscose has a soft hand and is appreciated for its “feel”. The trade-off is in less durability compared to other harder wearing and feeling fibers. Viscose should be vacuumed using suction only; if one has a vacuum with a rotating bar, it should be turned off when vacuuming a rug with viscose. If the rotating bar is used, one will notice more fiber in the dirt container of the vacuum. Viscose is recommended for its beauty and for medium to light traffic areas.

Serapi/Heriz rugs are constructed by a labor intensive hand knotting process, made from thick plush piles of wool using high lanoline content wool, natural dyes, and luster washing.
