For the first time in collector edition history, Stickley has created a craftsman style quality piece using solid American hardwoods and featuring handcrafted tiles from Motowi Tileworks. The intent was to create a simple design inspired by serenity and nature. Line character and color intensity are intentionally varied to create the feeling of distance.
Stickley s 2019 collector comes with two handmade Motowi Riverscape tiles. Each tile is created by a skilled artist in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The original design is by Nawal Motowi, who founded Motawi Tileworks more than 20 years ago. Nawal graduated from the University of Michigan art school and later moved to Detroit to learn tile making at Detroit s storied Pewabic Pottery. She returned to Ann Arbor a few years later and began making the tiles in her garage. Motawi tiles have been featured in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Dwell Magazine.
