Shifman’s luxurious, hand-crafted mattresses are built with the same commitment to quality, integrity, and true craftsmanship that the company was founded on over 125 years ago. Two brothers, Abraham and Samuel Shifman, wanted to create superior bedding for customers using the highest quality materials. In 1985 the two brothers sold Shifman to Mike Hammer, a bedding professional with more than 22 years of experience in sales and manufacturing. From that day forward, Hammer pledged to continue the legacy of Abraham and Samuel Shifman by maintaining the higher standards of quality, excellence and integrity. 

When several competitors made changes to bedding only to benefit themselves by cuttings costs on materials and manufacturing, Shifman stayed true to its name by hand-crafting bedding with the same attention to detail and quality they started the company with.  Shifman remains one of the few mattress manufacturers that continues to produce two-sided mattresses. A two-sided mattress can be flipped for extended comfort life and durability.

Shifman has around 50 skilled artisans who take so much pride in what they do.  Their meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail go way beyond what a programmed machine can do.  It’s pretty incredible to witness the art of hand-tufting and 8 way hand-tied box springs. It really gives you an appreciation of what goes into making such a comfortable, durable mattress and box spring. Natural materials like breathable cotton, Talalay Latex, Joma Wool, Pashmina Cashmere and sustainably-sourced spruce create lasting comfort with environmental benefits.  Instead of using chemicals to make mattresses flame retardant like many manufacturers, Shifman spins sand into fibers during construction. As a result, they are able to achieve the same safe effect using natural materials!
